Teen Driver Education Program

Driving is one of the most important responsibilities you will take on in your life. Every time you get behind the wheel, you are responsible for your own safety, your passengers’ safety, and the safety of others on the road.

Driver education is designed to give you the knowledge, skills, and mindset to drive safely and responsibly. In Indiana, driver education is especially important for young drivers because statistics show that new drivers are at higher risk for crashes.

The goals of driver education include:

  • Helping you understand Indiana traffic laws and rules of the road

  • Teaching the skills required to control a vehicle safely under all conditions

  • Developing defensive driving habits

  • Instilling respect for other drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and passengers

  • Preparing you for the Indiana BMV written knowledge test and the driving skills test

  • Encouraging lifelong safe driving attitudes

Driver education also emphasizes risk awareness: every decision behind the wheel carries risk. By completing this program, you will learn how to recognize and manage those risks.
