Bad weather and night driving require adjustments to improve safety.

Driving in bad weather:

  • Reduce speed on wet, snowy, or icy roads.

  • Increase following distance to allow for longer stopping distances.

  • Use headlights whenever visibility is reduced.

Hydroplaning is a serious hazard in wet weather:

  • It occurs when tires lose contact with the road surface due to a layer of water.

  • If hydroplaning begins, ease off the accelerator and steer straight until traction is regained.

Night driving considerations:

  • Reduce speed due to reduced visibility.

  • Use low-beam headlights in fog, heavy rain, or snow.

  • Avoid looking directly into the headlights of oncoming vehicles to reduce glare.
